Layered Defense Against the Drone Threat
SPECTRA SHIELD is Frontier Defense Technology's counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS), engineered to defeat the full spectrum of small drone threats — from commercial quadcopters to military-grade Group 3 platforms. The system integrates multi-sensor detection, automated tracking, electronic attack, and kinetic effectors into a single, rapidly deployable package.
The proliferation of inexpensive, weaponized drones has fundamentally changed the threat calculus for forward-deployed forces. SPECTRA SHIELD restores the protective umbrella that legacy air defense systems were never designed to provide at the tactical level.
Layered Kill Chain
SPECTRA SHIELD employs a detect-track-identify-defeat architecture with multiple effector options, allowing operators to select the appropriate response based on threat type, rules of engagement, and collateral risk:
- Detection: 3D AESA radar (360-degree coverage, 10 km range) with integrated acoustic sensors for close-in gap fill
- Tracking: EO/IR gimbal with AI-assisted target classification and automatic handoff from radar
- Electronic Attack: Directional RF jammer targeting common C2 and GPS frequencies with protocol-aware waveforms
- Kinetic Defeat: 30mm proximity-fused airburst rounds for Group 2–3 targets; integrated micro-munition launcher for Group 1
- Autonomous Mode: Fully automated detect-to-defeat in <5 seconds with human-on-the-loop override
Platform Specifications
Operational Testing
SPECTRA SHIELD completed IOT&E at White Sands Missile Range in January 2026, demonstrating a 94% engagement success rate against representative Group 1–3 threats across 312 live-fire engagements. The system successfully defeated swarming scenarios of up to 8 simultaneous targets.
Notable test results include first-round kills against Group 2 fixed-wing UAS at 4.2 km and successful RF defeat of GPS-guided loitering munitions at ranges exceeding 6 km. The AI classification engine achieved a 99.1% correct identification rate with zero false engagements against manned aircraft.
GRIDWATCH Integration
SPECTRA SHIELD feeds track data into the GRIDWATCH common operating picture, giving maneuver commanders real-time visibility into the air defense umbrella coverage and active drone threats. GRIDWATCH operators can designate priority defense areas and receive automated alerts when drone activity is detected near critical assets.
